Within the first two letters of typing “Happy Birthday” in the title, I can start to feel the tears well up. You, my Gabriel Dayne, have brought more joy to my world in these short three years than you will ever know. 1,095 days. That’s how many days have gone by since you were first handed to my arms – yet, as cliche as it sounds – it feels like yesterday. You are the most beautiful boy I know. You are compassionate and funny, yet stubborn and strong-willed. I could never have imagined that the little scrunchy faced, squishy-nosed baby would be…you. Yet, you couldn’t be more perfect for us.
You love well. Being just 4 months into your big brother role, you took it on like a champ. You like to make sure that Noah is happy and, under your watch, he should always have a toy in hand. You like to help change his diaper and ask him to color with you. “Mama, my fwends are my baborite.” And they are. You love laughing, playing and cheering them on. You are kind and gentle with everyone.
A musician. You love to sing and dance – so much so it almost drives me crazy. Its February and “Jingle Bells” is still going strong. If you’re not singing, then your beating the rhythm with whatever utensil you can find. You catch on to song lyrics so quick and become a great backup singer in the car. More times than I can count, your daddy and I hear you singing your heart out and silently smile at each other.
You are so shy and timid. If you are unsure of something new or if there is something that is the least bit scary to you, you will refuse – refuse – to try it until you’re ready (if you ever decide you’re ready). Sorry, bud. You get the timidness from me and the stubbornness from dad.
Your smile and laugh melt my heart. If I can find something that makes you laugh, I will repeat it over and over again just to hear your giggle. (Now if I can just get you to smile for the camera for me more!)
You will always be the one that made me “mommy”. I am so so blessed that it was you.
Happy 3rd Birthday, Bear. You’ll always be my “favorite Gabe”.
