On Sunday I had the privilege of documenting Avery’s entrance into this world. It was an incredible and emotional experience.
Brooke and her husband are both in the Navy. Max was recently transferred to Norfolk, VA and once reunited it will have been a year since he saw them last – leaving him unable to meet his baby girl until she is 6 months old. In order to ease some of the family’s separation pains Brooke sends photographs. Therefore, she wanted/needed her daughter’s birth captured in still images so that her daddy wouldn’t miss out.
Brooke, Thank you for inviting me into your room to capture such a precious and personal time for you and your family. I was honored.

Max - We didn’t get a chance to meet, but thank you so much for taking the photographs of Brooke, Avery and the whole experience. Being away from home for so long isn’t easy, and knowing you are missing such an important life event does’t make it any easier. While Brooke was giving birth, life carried on as normal on the ship as we pulled into port in Spain. Only afterwards, ship safely anchored, did I call and get the wonderful news of the new addition to our family. While the distance from home is palpable, the disconnectedness a constant, your wonderful photographs let me experience the feel of the delivery room and be that much closer to home and family. Thank you for being there when I couldn’t. Know that your photographs have a home on the steel walls of our country’s newest, largest and most powerful naval vessel as it completes its maiden combat deployment.
