And the worst thing about country music is the country music videos. chee-sy! I know this! I do. BUT at the same time I saw this SugarLand video for the first time the other day and I laughed out loud. Then I watched it 4 more times - and I still laugh - everytime. So I had to share (please tell me you think its as funny as I do and that I’m not lost forever in a country music blackhole, never to return again!)

I love doing sessions inside my clients’ homes. 1. Because it allows me to catch a glimpse of their life together and 2. ALL of my clients have THE CUTEST NURSERY. everyone of them! I love it! I need to secretly start taking photos of their nurseries just to get future ideas for myself! Someday I’ll do a post just on these incredible rooms - after all, much love and planning go into them!

SO an hour and a half LATER, and a stressed out, sweaty, stinky mess complete with bloody heels (note to self: don’t wear heels while attempting to walk all over a completely new city. ouch!) I finally made it to the meet and greet!! whew!

Thankfully Leah and my other new photog friends made up for it quickly! The workshop was incredible! The ladies were a blast and I walked away feeling SO encouraged and inspired!

During lunch on Saturday we took a photo walk through Pike’s Place. Our first stop was of course the chocolate shop!

Then on to Pike’s Place:

The flowers were beautiful! And filled the entire hall with their fragrance!

And the hall was packed!

Side note - Hello. Most Amazing prop store. Ever. (oh! if I could only get a newborn in that blue box or use the ladder in the middle of the field…)

After our little lunch excursion we went back to finish up the workshop. That night,I had a little time to kill since I didn’t fly out until Sunday. I went with Cherie, another photographer, to explore a little more of Seattle and catch a much needed dinner to wind down from the day!

What an incredible weekend!

And for the next 20 minutes he sits in the water, quietly…letting the warm water relax his muscles before he goes to bed for the night. The end.

Okay, clearly I’m lying. this is what bathtime really looks like…

Then I tell him he’s making too big of a mess and I’m tired of the dog licking the bathwater off of the walls. but he just thinks that’s funny. so he does it again.

Then after a series of “Gabe, sit down. Gabe, be careful. Sit down. Your going to fall. I know, I told you you were going to fall. Gabe, sit down. You are not allowed to climb out of the tub. Sit down. Sit down.” He sits.

but he’s thinking of standing…I can see it in his eyes…

And a little photo tip for the mamas: Did you know the earliest hours of the morning and the latest hours of the evening are best for lighting? This was an 8am session - see the sun glowing through the trees? Heavenly. Photos shot closer to noon create harsh shadows.  So the next free morning you get, grab your camera (it doesn’t have to be fancy), plop your little one in the backyard (maybe with his favorite toy to document this age) and snap away before he grows another inch!

I once heard that when you’re a parent the days are long and the years are short. Gabe hasn’t even been around for more than 18 months and I already couldn’t agree more with that statement.

With the temperatures being 100+ outside, we’ve been spending a lot of days inside. Sometimes its actually hard for me to put down the laundry or the vacuum cleaner, pick up the camera, and snap photos of Gabe…doing what can easily be categorized as “ordinary life.” (funny since that’s what I love so much about photography in the first place - simply documenting life).

Gabe has taken a particular interest in his crib lately. He insists on sitting in there and reading. But he can’t just have one book, he must have a basket full.

And of course Brobee can never be too far away. (Any other Yo Gabba Gabba fans out there? There should be a counseling group held for Moms who have been forced to learn all of the Yo Gabba Gabba songs: “There’s a party in my tummy…” It never stops!)

Another new interest? His “Coo-ool Man” glasses:

Who cares that they scrunch his ears just a bit? Sometimes coolness must come with a price.

(speaking of deformed: Wow. let me extend my apologies for that crazy arrow. That’s what I get for making fun of my child’s ear - the inability to draw an arrow.)

And what better way to celebrate your first birthday than with a tutu…

…and a cupcake?

The next photo makes me laugh. I love how quickly toddlers can go from laughing to crying to laughing again. But hey, “its her party so she can cry if she wants to!”

I have the pleasure of being able to capture little Athena’s first year.  Here she is at 6 months:

Isn’t she divine? Her little face and bright blue eyes remind me a Porcelain doll!

I had the idea of setting up a “lemonade stand” for Athena’s session…the night before, I might add. Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who doesn’t mind running around town with this crazy lady so that I could collect all the necessary props.
