Anybody else find themselves sometimes always cooking dinner like this?

Because I do. A lot.
Please tell me there are others. Please.
Welcome to my blog! I am an Oklahoma City based photographer specializing in on-location, natural light portraiture of newborns, children, and families. I am passionate about photography! I view each photograph as a single, captured moment. I desire to give my clients the same kind of photographs that I would want to display in my own home.
Here you will find snapshots of my most recent sessions, and a bit of miscellaneous mumbo jumbo that involve my adventures as a new mom. Feel free to leave me a comment - I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Little Theo. What a joy he was to meet!

I know I say this every time I have a shoot with an 8 month old - but I absolutely adore this age! They are so excited about life! Theo was so full of wonder and giggles and excitement in showing off some of his newest “tricks” dad taught him.

Because we live in Oklahoma, its already 90+ degrees by 8 in the morning, so Holly and Chris decided to have the session indoors. I love having sessions at my clients’ homes. I feel like I can document so much more of who they are - capturing both their personalities and their styles!

To wrap up the session, we plopped Theo in a tub full of bubbles. There’s just nothing cuter than a naked baby, the sun and some bubbles…

While I was vacuuming the house the other day, Gabe decided he should help by standing on the very tips of his toes, grabbing the bag of powdered sugar off of the pantry shelf, turning it upside down and running through the living room at a dead sprint…creating a mini-winter wonderland of powdered sugar for me to vacuum.

Apparently he thought my chore wasn’t exciting enough. Just look at that face of contentment. If his chubby little arms could reach, he would be patting himself on the back.

And the bag of powdered sugar now sits one shelf higher.
Gabe LOVES the water! Scratch that - Gabe loves the hose.

Almost to a fault - in fact, this is his “I-can’t-turn-the-faucet-on-by-myself” fake cry. pathetic.

I wish I could say he sits happily in his pool and plays in the water like a perfect gentleman should…but who am I kidding? He’s a toddler. AND he’s a boy. Which is why he prefers to water the cement and the dog and me as opposed to keeping the hose in the pool.

but sometimes I can convince him to stay in the pool - for just a few minutes while I snatch some photos…
…and then he’s off and running again.
While visiting my BFF, Tessa, in Wichita last week, I was able to sneak in a senior session for her cousin, Alaina. Not only was Alaina and her family fun to work with but I LOVED having Tessa come along with me for a session.
Here is a little preview of Alaina’s session…

In April, I traveled to Stillwater to meet Jay, Jennifer and Hudson for their family session. Just this week, I had the honor of meeting the newest member of their family, Athen. Turning their family of 3 to a new and exciting family of 4. As I mentioned before Jennifer and I both graduated from OBU…if someone told me at the time that I would be photographing her newborn baby within a few years - I would have laughed at them. me? a photographer? rrriiight. Funny how God has different plans sometimes.

Little Athan woke up just as I walked in the door (something about me must have “party” written all over.) He just didn’t want to miss out on all the fun. But after a while and a little bit of tag-teaming it, Mom and Dad got him back to dreamland…where he remained the rest of the visit.

Thank you so much Jennifer and Jay for inviting me back into your home! I had a wonderful time capturing your beautiful baby boy!
Nima and Jessica were married a few weeks ago at the Oklahoma Heritage Museum.

They had a Persian ceremony with the most intricate details. So much time and love went into the details. Everything was simply gorgeous.

This is the pose I got when I told the groomsmen to “have fun with it.” Stretches. Ha! Note to self: be more specific next time…

Remember this session? Me too. {sigh.} It’s gone.
Last week while wrapping up the final post processing details on that very session my computer froze. I didn’t think anything of it. I grumbled to myself, something along the lines of “I don’t have time for this” (ha!) and restarted my computer. Mac however, disagreed and instead gave me a forever rotating “idle” sign. UGH. So I tried again. And again. And again. And then I turned to Kevin in a panic. “My computers gone. My work is gone. Everything is gone!” Kevin assured me that surely that wasn’t the case and the brilliant minds of Apple engineer this lovely machine to make that next to impossible and that even if something were seriously wrong with the computer, we would be able to pull the information. To make a long story short, he was wrong. My hard drive had fried and much of my work had been lost…including the one session that I had yet to back up. I felt sick.
“Karri, this is Megan DeShazo. My computer crashed and I lost your photos.” I was beyond embarrassed. My pride was gone. I’m supposed to be a professional and yet this is was the farthest thing from professional I could think of. Thankfully the family was beyond kind and welcomed me back to their home for a second session. They showed me more grace than I deserved. In the end, I learned the hardway - backup, backup, backup. and came away from the second session with images that, I think, are even better than the first. (may they rest in peace.)
Without further ado…Jack and Katie: Take 2.

While working with Katie, I could hear a lot of “construction” going on in the living room…as it turns out Jack was building an airplane. How cute is he???

On Friday I met Karri, Jack and the newest member of their family, Katie.

This little lady gave me a run for my money. It seems no one told her that there was going to be a “party” going on at her house…who wants to sleep and miss out on all the action, right?

So while mom worked on getting her baby girl back to dream land, I hung out with Jack…

And from time to time would sneak in a few shots Of Katie when she wasn’t looking….
